Buzzsprout Review – Introduction
Buzzsprout launched in 2010 and have been growing ever since. In 2018 alone, they helped over 15 million people create podcasts and publish them on over 1 million websites around the world.
But enough about us let’s get into the meat of this Buzzsprout review:
- What exactly does Buzzsprout offer?
- And how does it compare against other podcast hosts like Libsyn or Blubrry?
What Is Buzzsprout?
Buzzsprout is a powerful WordPress plugin that lets you host and manage your podcast easily. It comes with a ton of great features, including an easy-to-use interface, integrations with social media, and even the ability to create custom landing pages for your podcasts.
What is Buzzsprout?
Buzzsprout is a WordPress plugin that allows you to easily host and manage your podcast. The plugin works with any theme or hosting provider and has been designed from scratch with podcasters in mind.
There are two parts to the Buzzsprout platform: the web app and the standalone app (available on iTunes).
The web app is what you use to upload your episodes, edit metadata like titles and descriptions, publish new episodes, schedule future episodes, etc. It also includes tools for managing contributors (such as guest hosts) and performing other administrative tasks related to your podcast.
The standalone app is what you use when creating new episodes or publishing them live on air; this process can be done either via the web app or directly through the Android/iOS app (if you’re using an iPhone).

Now that you have activated your account, you can begin using Buzzsprout! You will see a list of podcasts in your library across all of your shows as well as any shows that are currently live or upcoming.

1. Buzzsprout Setting Up A New Show
In this tutorial, I will be showing you how to set up a new show in Buzzsprout. This can be followed for setting up a brand new show or for updating an existing show.
Step 1: Click on “Start New Show” in the top right corner of your screen.
Step 2: Enter your podcast title and description. The title and description should be short, but descriptive enough to give people an idea of what your show is about.
Step 3: Click on the blue button that says “Click here to create it.” Your new show will now appear at the top of your page under the heading “New Shows.”
Step 4: Click on “Add Episodes” in order to add episodes to this particular show. You can add as many episodes as you want at once, but make sure they’re all labeled correctly first! If they are not labeled correctly, then they will not appear in iTunes search results or anywhere else on the web when someone searches for them by name (for example: “How To Podcast”).
2. Migrating To Buzzsprout
Migrating to Buzzsprout is simple, but you’ll want to make sure that you’re prepared before you begin.
You’ll need to have an existing podcast website and RSS feed.
Your RSS feed should have all of the following:
An image (or no image)
An iTunes category or custom URL scheme*
To get your podcast URL Scheme, click ‘Show Advanced Options’ on your show’s iTunes page, then click ‘Get the Podcast RSS Feed’. You can find this by going to the iTunes store, clicking on ‘Podcasts’ then clicking on your show’s name (if it doesn’t appear in search results).
Then click the ‘Subscribe’ button and copy the link. If you don’t see advanced options, make sure you’re logged in as a host/admin and have enabled all of your podcasts.
Once you have these items ready to go, log into Buzzsprout and head over to our migration tool: https://buzzsprout.com/migrate-podcasts
Buzzsprout File Auto-Modification
I recently created a new feature for Buzzsprout that allows users to automatically modify their MP3 files so that they can be played on the web. The goal was to create a simple way for podcasters to publish their podcasts to the web without the need for any additional processing.
How it works:
When you upload your file through Buzzsprout, we automatically convert it into an MP3 version that is optimized for streaming on the web (44100 Hz, mono, 320kbps). We then create a second file that has “auto” in its filename.
This one is optimized for download and will play just fine in iTunes or any other media player.

We want to make it easy to start your own podcast, so we’ve made this feature available for free.
The Buzzsprout website builder is completely free and requires no coding knowledge at all. We’ve tried our best to make it as easy as possible for anyone to create their own website!
How Do I Use My Free Website?
Once you create an account on Buzzsprout, you’ll be able to log into your dashboard and access our site builder tool. There are several templates available for different types of podcasts and audio shows, or you can start from scratch and build something that fits your needs perfectly.

Using the Buzzsprout Auto-transcription feature will allow you to create an auto-transcript of any uploaded audio file. This can be useful if you have a podcast or an interview show and are interested in making your content more searchable.
Once you have set up auto-transcription, Buzzsprout will do the work for you by converting the audio into text. It will then automatically create a CSV file that you can use to easily import into WordPress with our Podcasting plugin or any other CMS that supports CSV imports.
To get started, click ‘Settings’ from your dashboard and then select ‘Auto-Transcribe’. A new window will pop up where you’ll need to select the audio file for which you would like to receive an auto-transcript.
Once selected, click ‘Create Auto-Transcription’ and within just a few minutes our team will send you an email with your auto-transcript attached as a CSV file ready for import into WordPress!

4. Buzzsprout Dashboard-Based Statistics
The Buzzsprout stats dashboard is a great tool that gives you some basic information about your podcast.
Here’s what the stats dashboard looks like:
This dashboard displays the following information:
Estimated number of downloads per episode. This is based on your average episodes per day, last 7 days and last 30 days.
If you have more than one podcast, it will show the estimated downloads for all of them combined. This number can be inaccurate if you don’t update your feed as often as possible.
Estimated number of subscribers per episode (if you have a feed), or total subscribers for all shows combined (if you have more than one podcast). Again, this number can be inaccurate if you don’t update your feed as often as possible.
Estimated number of playbacks per episode (if you have an embed code), or total playbacks for all shows combined (if you have more than one podcast). This number can be inaccurate if people aren’t using the embed code correctly (e.g.,
they’re using it in an online reader instead of copying/pasting into their player).

1. Buzzsprout Visual Soundbites
The Buzzsprout Visual Soundbites tool lets you create short videos that play automatically when someone visits your podcast website.
We’ve all seen the clunky websites that play a video in the background while they load or while you’re waiting for something to happen. Most of us have also been frustrated by these experiences, because they can be distracting and take away from our experience with your site.
That’s why we created this tool: to help you make the most of your podcast website without taking away from your visitors’ experience.
How it works
The Visual Soundbites tool allows you to create a video that will play automatically when someone visits your podcast website. You can use this tool in a number of different ways, including as an introduction for new episodes, as a teaser for upcoming episodes, or even as an advertisement for your show!
2. Buzzsprout Chapter Markers
Buzzsprout chapter markers are a great way to add chapters to your podcast. They help you structure your content and make it easier for listeners to navigate through your episodes.
Buzzsprout chapter markers are available with all of our plans, including our free plan!
Chapter Markers in Buzzsprout
After you publish your podcast, you can find the Chapter Markers option under the Advanced Settings tab in the Edit Show page.
You can either manually create each chapter marker or use our automatic chapter marker feature. You’ll want to use this if you’re creating a linear episode that doesn’t have any gaps between content.
For example, an interview or a live recording without breaks between segments.
To use our automatic chapter marker feature:
1) Select “Automatically add chapters based on time” from the Chapter Marker section on your Edit Show page (if it isn’t already selected).
2) Enter the number of minutes/seconds after which you want each segment to start into the Start at box (e.g., 10 minutes).
Then enter how many minutes/seconds after each segment ends that you want a new chapter marker created in the Finish At box (e.g., 5 minutes). This will create an audio file
3. Buzzsprout Distribution Features

The process is simple: add a new filter or sticker to your story, then select “Buzzsprout” from the list of apps. Choose which episode you want to share with listeners and click “Next.”
Enter a title for your post and choose whether you want it embedded in-line with other photos or as a standalone post at the top of your feed. Once that’s done, press “Publish” and watch as thousands of subscribers pour into your account!
