Greed
An ambitious silent-era epic, Greed is one of the most famous lost films in cinema history, originally cut down from nearly nine hours to just over two. Directed by Erich von Stroheim, the film tells a tragic story of obsession and materialism, centered around a lottery winner whose life is destroyed by greed. The surviving version is still considered a masterpiece of silent cinema, with stunning cinematography and rich character development. Its themes of human downfall and moral decay remain timeless. Despite its troubled history, Greed is widely regarded as one of the greatest silent films ever made.
