This is the 8th installment of this feature here on Filmmaking Lifestyle, where we chart the best-of-the-best from around the filmmaking and video production world. This article covers the best posts from May 2016.

Every month, I post a round-up article featuring the best things I’ve found around the web on filmmaking and video production. If you missed one, we have a complete archive here.

We’re talking articles, videos, infographics, all sorts. Anything that stands out to me and that I think is worth keeping in an archive, I’m going to include in these reports.

I post these articles at the end of each month, along with all the regular posts you get on Filmmaking Lifestyle.

The Best Posts Of May 2016

I know I say it very month, but this month has been a busy one! With the wedding season really kicking into swing in April, things started to really heat up! I came back from holiday and have just been working like a mad man.

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it publicly (although it’s been linked in the site menu for some time now), I have been running an Instagram for a while now. If you’re interested in what I’m up to, and seeing what I’m seeing during my travels, you can check that out.

As always, if you want to get in touch for any reason (like getting mentioned in this site feature, for example), you can do that here.

So let’s get into this month’s wrap-up and see the best posts on filmmaking and video production from around the web!

Filmmaking & Video Production

Here’s an interesting article about Stanley Kubrick. Anything that features this quote is worth your reading time: “The best education in film is to make one. I would advise any neophyte director to try to make a film by himself. A three-minute short will teach him a lot.”

Ever thought that Airbnb could connect filmmakers with locations? Well it can! Here’s an article a startup dubbed the ‘Airbnb For Film,’ that links homeowners and location scouts.

On Filmmaking Lifestyle, I was really pleased to be able to feature an article by my friend Jordy Vandeput from Belgium. His article about starting in videography is a great read and highlights his unique journey in getting out there and getting work after film school. Something that not enough people do!

You might remember Jordy from earlier this year on the site, as we featured him in our 17 Experts Share Their Tips on Video Production Pricing article.

Crowdfunding! What’s your take on it? We also published an article this month about the ‘5 Don’ts of Crowdfunding Videos on Kickstarter, Indiegogo and others.’

It’s worth a look if you’re considering crowdfunding a project.

Software, Hardware & Visual Effects

Interested in run-and-gun documentary or news video-making? Here’s how to make a quick-and-dirty iPhone 6S documentary filmmaking kit.

In geek tech news, Samsung introduces a 256GB microSD card that can handle 4K video recording. Pretty cool.

Here are 5 special effects that anyone can do for free:

Let’s wrap-up this section with a very interesting video about video compression. If you feature snow or confetti in your videos and use YouTube, this will be informative for you:

Picture Of The Month

I stumbled upon this really cool DIY shoulder rig picture, complete with annotation and explanations about how it was created, by a guy called fabianoh130:

Video Of The Month

This month’s Video of the Month features an awesome example of guerrilla filmmaking. Guy goes out on the street and makes a trailer using random people he meets! This is a lot of fun:
