    Formula, assumptions & limitations

Exactly how the numbers above are calculated, so you can check them and decide what to adjust.

    Formulas

    Total spend
    ad spend + content/production cost + tools/software cost
    Revenue
    conversions × average order value
    Profit
    revenue − total spend
    ROI (%)
    (profit ÷ total spend) × 100
    Cost per lead (CPL)
    total spend ÷ leads
    Customer acquisition cost (CAC)
    total spend ÷ conversions
    Conversion rate (%)
    (conversions ÷ leads) × 100
    Break-even conversions
total spend ÷ average order value, rounded up to a whole sale
    Units
    • Money values are in pounds sterling (£): totals are rounded to the nearest pound, CPL and CAC to the penny.
    • Leads and conversions are counts for the same campaign period as the spend.
    Assumptions
    • Revenue is first-sale revenue only (conversions × average order value) — repeat business and lifetime value are not included.
    • Every conversion is attributed to this campaign spend.
    • Blank, negative or non-numeric entries are treated as 0.
    • Ratios that would divide by zero (for example CPL with no leads) show “n/a” rather than a misleading 0.
    Limitations
    • ROI here is revenue-based, not margin-based: it ignores your delivery costs, so a positive ROI does not by itself mean the work was profitable.
    • It does not connect to ad platforms or analytics, so results are only as accurate as the numbers you enter.
    • Not financial or tax advice.
