Yojimbo

Yojimbo (1961) is a Japanese samurai film directed by Akira Kurosawa, starring Toshiro Mifune as the unnamed ronin, or wandering samurai. The film follows the ronin as he arrives in a town torn apart by two warring crime families and decides to play both sides against each other for his own gain. Yojimbo is known for its stylized action, clever plotting, and Mifune’s powerful performance. The film’s influence extends far beyond Japanese cinema, having inspired countless Western films, including Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars (1964). Yojimbo remains one of the most influential samurai films, celebrated for its moral ambiguity, complex characters, and groundbreaking direction.
