Yorgos Lanthimos

Yorgos Lanthimos is a Greek filmmaker known for his darkly comedic, unconventional approach to storytelling. His films often explore themes of power, control, and human relationships in absurd or dystopian settings. Lanthimos gained international acclaim for Dogtooth (2009), a disturbing exploration of a family living in isolation, which won the Prix Un Certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival. He followed this success with The Lobster (2015), a surreal and satirical look at societal expectations around love and relationships. His 2018 film The Favourite, a period drama about manipulation and power in the court of Queen Anne, was a critical success and earned multiple Academy Award nominations. Lanthimos’s work is marked by its deadpan humor, offbeat narratives, and exploration of social conventions, establishing him as one of contemporary cinema’s most distinctive voices.
