We are a team of 4 developers and have used RDS for our production database. We have also used other providers.

I am writing this review to highlight some of the advantages of using RDS, especially if you are just starting out with your product. 

We use MySQL & Aurora as our database.


  1. Easy to set up, manage & scale. Easy to migrate your existing data.
  2. You can use the same tools & application code that you use with on-premise databases.

They do automatic backups and make it easy to restore from those backups if needed or take point-in-time snapshots if something terrible happens to your database instance.

  1. They also provide Multi-AZ (i.e., high availability) deployment option so that your database is replicated across multiple availability zones within a region. 
  2. If one availability zone goes down, your database will still be accessible from another availability zone in the same area. 
  3. Users won’t even notice any downtime because it’s handled automatically by AWS without any intervention from you! That’s the beauty of cloud computing :).
  4. There are many more features like monitoring and security groups, but these were some of our favourite ones when we first started using Amazon Web.

6. Oracle RDBMS

Oracle Corporation is an American multinational computer technology corporation headquartered in Redwood Shores, California.

The company specialises in developing and marketing database software and technology, cloud-engineered systems, and enterprise software products — particularly its own brands of database management systems.

In 2015 Oracle was the second-largest software maker by revenue after Microsoft. 

The company also develops and builds tools for database development and systems of middle-tier software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) software, customer relationship management (CRM) software, and supply chain management (SCM) software.

Larry Ellison co-founded Oracle Corporation in 1977 with Bob Miner and Ed Oates under the name Software Development Laboratories (SDL).

I have used the EMS SQL Manager for years, finding it a perfect tool. I am a bit of a “Microsoft” person, but Microsoft does not provide any free tools for MySQL. So I just use the EMS. What I like about it:

  1.  It is relatively cheap, and you can use it on all your computers without paying anything else. This will save you $$$ in the long run, and you can install it on as many computers as you want.
  2.  You can copy databases from one computer to another with no problems. 
  3. You can load data from CSV files into tables with no issues.
  4. You can import data from other databases (such as Access) into MySQL tables with no problems. 
  5. The program works well with Windows 8 and Windows 10.
  6. The program saves settings on your computer’s hard drive, so when you uninstall and reinstall the program, all your settings are automatically restored (I like this feature).  

Also, if you buy a new computer, you can just copy the Settings file to your new computer, and all your settings will be there!
