FAMOUS MOVIE CARS

What Are Famous Movie Cars?

Think about the car that you see in your head when someone says, “chariot.” Most likely, it’s a big red Chevy with flames painted on top. That would be from Disney’s Hercules and is actually called Pegasus.

You may also think of the DeLorean from Back to the Future or maybe even James Bond’s little Aston Martin DB5.

These are just some examples of cars that have become famous due to their appearance in popular movies and television shows like these mentioned above.

Famous Movie Cars

Throughout film history, there have been many iconic cars that have helped make movie-going an even more enjoyable experience.

From James Bond’s Aston Martin to KITT from Knight Rider, these famous movie cars are a big part of why we love movies so much.

1958 Plymouth Fury, ‘Christine’

The 1958 Plymouth Fury is a classic car that was featured in the novel and film, Christine. In the movie, the car was involved in many mysterious ‘accidents.’

The movie is based on a Stephen King horror story about a teenager who buys the car, named Christine, from the junkyard to restore.

The original 1958 Plymouth Fury was built by General Motors for its entry into NASCAR racing but never left production afterward due to low sales figures.

It’s hard to imagine a car as iconic as the 1958 Plymouth Fury, ‘Christine’ because of its place in pop culture.

Plymouth had an idea for a new model that would offer more power than the 1957 models. The design was originally called “Project Prowler” but was renamed “Fury.”

The car that was used to play Christine is now on display at the Autorama Museum in Flint, Michigan.

1981 Delorean DMC-12, ‘Back to the Future’

The 1981 Delorean DMC-12 was not a commercial success when first introduced to the market.

The car had many problems, such as leaky doors and its lack of airbags. However, it has become an iconic automotive symbol since it was featured in the 1985 film Back to the Future.

In the film, Marty McFly and Dr. Emmett Brown traveled from the year 2015 to October 26th, 1985 to November 4th, 1955 in a 1981 Delorean DMC-12 that was made into a time machine.

The time machine was powered by plutonium and required 1.21 gigawatts of electricity to run at full power.

Only one of six models from the movie can be found on display at museums worldwide. If you’re looking for a piece of movie history or just want to get back into some 1980s nostalgia, this may be right up your alley!

It is possible that the Delorean may have been inspired by a model created in 1885 called the Royse Carriage Company Limited, London’s first horseless carriage.
