    How it works

A good quote shows a client exactly what they're paying for. Add your line items by category — pre-production, crew, filming, equipment, post-production, editing, music and expenses — set any markup, discount and tax, add notes and terms, and print the clean preview or save it as a PDF.

    How the total is calculated

    1. Line total = quantity × rate, rounded to the penny/cent
    2. Subtotal = sum of line totals
    3. Markup = subtotal × markup % (built into each line's client rate unless you choose to show it as a separate line)
    4. Discount = (subtotal + markup) × discount %, or a fixed amount
    5. Tax = (subtotal + markup − discount) × your tax rate, only if you turn tax on
    6. Total = subtotal + markup − discount + tax

    Markup vs margin

    Margin = markup ÷ (1 + markup); markup = margin ÷ (1 − margin). So a 25% markup is a 20% margin, and a 30% target margin needs about a 42.9% markup. A discount reduces your margin, and the totals panel shows what's left.

    Privacy

    • Client names, rates and notes stay in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent to us or to third parties.
    • Quote details are never put in the page address, so sharing the page link doesn't share your quote.

    FAQ

What's the difference between markup and margin?
Markup is profit as a percentage of your cost; margin is profit as a percentage of the price. A 25% markup on £1,000 of cost gives a £1,250 price and a 20% margin. The builder shows both and can set the markup from a target margin.
Does the builder suggest day rates or a tax rate?
No. Rates start at zero and tax is off until you switch it on and enter your rate. Rates vary by region, experience and project, and tax rules depend on your circumstances — check with your accountant.
How is this different from the cost estimator and budget planner?
The cost estimator and budget planner give you a quick internal estimate from a few inputs. The quote builder produces the document you send a client: your line items, notes and terms, laid out for printing or PDF.
    Are the terms legally binding?
The builder doesn't supply legal wording. Write or paste your own terms, and take professional advice for contracts.
    Is it free to use?
Yes. There's no signup or account, and everything runs in your browser.
Where is my work saved? Is it private?
Your draft is saved automatically in this browser's local storage on this device only. It is never uploaded to us or anyone else and is not put in the page address. Clearing your browser data or using a private window removes it, so print, save as PDF or export a copy you want to keep.
