There are many kinds of writing styles. Some are more formal than others and some can be used for different types of writing.

Different Types of Writing Styles

What Are Writing Styles?

Writing styles are the different ways that you can use to make your writing more interesting, easier to read, and more effective.

Writing styles can be used in almost any type of writing, from business letters to blog posts and even personal letters.

In writing, the style of a piece is the way it is written. A writer’s style may be affected by many factors. It can be influenced by the writer’s personality, education, experiences, and more.

There are many different types of writing styles that you can use in your own writing.

What Are The Different Types Of Writing Styles?

There are many different writing styles. Here are some of the most common ones:

Academic writing is often used in college-level courses and research papers. It’s expected to be more formal than most other types of writing, and it follows a specific format. The goal of academic writing is to present information clearly, concisely, and objectively.

Business writing is used in all aspects of business communication — from emails to reports and proposals — and it’s usually written with a goal in mind (like closing a sale).

Business writers tend to be direct and concise when they communicate with colleagues or clients because they want to build a good professional relationship with them.

Creative writing is used by people who want to share their thoughts, feelings, experiences, or ideas about something through literature (e.g., poetry or fiction).

Writers who use this style often don’t adhere strictly to rules or conventions because they’re trying to express themselves creatively instead of conveying information objectively or communicating with others efficiently.

Journalism describes how news stories are written for newspapers, magazines, television shows, websites, etc.

Writers who use this style try to report on events as accurately as possible while still giving readers enough detail that they understand what’s happening.

There are multiple ways to write an essay, but there are certain types that are more commonly used than others. Here is a brief description of each type:

Plain English

This writing style is used when you want your reader to understand what you’re trying to say without using many big words or complicated sentences. It’s also used when you want your readers to feel connected with your topic in a personal manner.

Conversational English

This kind of writing style is often used for academic papers and essays because it’s formal enough for teachers but informal enough for students.

To use conversational English effectively, try keeping sentences short and simple and avoid using too many adjectives or adverbs.

Formal English

This type of writing style is often used in formal situations like business meetings or job interviews or when you want the reader know that what they’re reading is important and worthy of their attention.

What Are The Different Types Of Writing Formats?

There are two main types of writing formats:

Traditional format: This is the most common type of writing format, and it’s basically what you think of when you talk about “typical” academic paper.

The traditional format is based on a certain structure. The first section is called “introduction,” and it includes an introduction paragraph that introduces the topic, explains why it’s important, and introduces all of the main points.

In this section, you’ll also mention any research or primary sources you used in your paper, along with any evidence that supports your argument. Next comes a body section, which is where you discuss each point in detail and explain how it relates to the rest of your paper.

Finally, there’s an conclusion section where you summarize what you’ve learned and how these ideas can be applied in other contexts.

1. Narrative

Narrative is the act of telling a story. A narrative is a sequence of events that can be told in the past or present tense, and can be about real or fictional people. Stories are told for many reasons. They can be used to make points about the world, to entertain or educate, to teach us how to live our lives better or worse.

Stories are everywhere in our lives. They aren’t just entertainment, they’re how we learn about ourselves and others. They’re how we learn our values and morals, how we process information at an emotional level, and how we make sense of the world around us.

Stories have been around since before written language existed; oral stories were passed down through generations before being written down by priests or scribes (though not always). Stories have continued to evolve over time as new technologies allow for easier storytelling than ever before; video games like Grand Theft Auto V even take advantage of this by letting players create their own narratives within their games’ worlds.

Different Types Of Writing Genres

Narrative Different Types Of Writing Genres

Narrative is a type of writing that tells a story. It is the most common form of written language. A narrative can be either fictional or non-fictional, which means that it does not necessarily have to be true.

The main purpose of narrative is to tell a story about real life events and experiences through the use of words and sentences. Narratives can be told in different ways such as first person, third person, or omniscient perspectives. The author can also choose to use an indirect style or an indirect voice in their writing

Different Types Of Writing Genres

There are many types of narrative writing as well as genres within this category. Some of these include:

Historical narratives – These are stories about historical events such as wars, battles and other important events that happened in human history

Fiction – These are stories that were made up by authors on paper which relate to real life situations but are completely imaginary

Memoirs – A memoir is when someone writes down their own experience or memories in writing so they can share them with other people later on

Personal essay – Personal essays are written by individuals who write about themselves and how they feel about something at the time

2. Descriptive

I have a pet peeve with descriptive writing. It seems like writers tend to use the word “describe” as an excuse for laziness.

In particular, I’m talking about the word “describe” when it comes to describing people.

I think this happens because writers often don’t know what else to say about people and so fall back on the description method. But there’s a better way: focus on character traits and relationships, not physical appearance.

Let me give you an example:

“The woman was tall, with long brown hair and a round face.”

That’s just telling us what she looks like — we don’t need to know her height or weight or anything else about her appearance. We could just as easily say: “She had brown hair and a round face.” That would be much shorter and simpler than saying “tall,” but it would still get across the same thing: she had certain characteristics that made her stand out from other people.

Different Styles Of Writing

Descriptive writing is the process of describing a topic using non-fiction and non-fiction writing such as essays, academic papers, and research papers. Descriptive writing is one of the most common types of writing tasks assigned to students in college.

Writing a descriptive essay is an easy task if you have the right information about your topic. It takes a lot of research to be able to write a good descriptive essay about anything. The main purpose of descriptive essays is to provide readers with information about some particular topic so that they can make their own conclusions about it.

Descriptive essays are divided into three different categories: narrative, expository, and argumentative. Here I am going to discuss each type of descriptive essay in detail so that you can get an idea of how they differ from each other and what are their pros and cons.

3. Persuasive

Persuasive writing is a form of communication that is aimed at convincing people to adopt an opinion or to take certain actions.

Persuasion is the process of influencing people to act in a specific way, by means of influencing their attitudes, beliefs, motives, emotions and behaviour. Persuasion can be achieved by using words and other symbolic media (like gestures), or through more direct methods such as emotional appeals.

Persuasion can be direct or indirect: direct persuasion attempts to persuade the audience to change their minds about clearly defined ideas; indirect persuasion attempts to convince the audience to change their minds by appealing to their non-rational motivations.

The persuasive writer needs to identify with his reader and treat him as an equal. To make it easier for them you should use plenty of examples and metaphors that are easy for them to understand.

4 Types Of Writing

There are many types of writing, from the most simple to the most complex. Here are some of the more common ones.

Fiction: Fiction is written to entertain and inform an audience. It can be a short story, novel or novella.

Nonfiction: Nonfiction is written for a specific purpose such as explaining something, selling a product or sharing information about a particular topic. This type of writing usually includes charts and graphs to present data in an organized way.

Argumentative Essay: An argumentative essay uses facts and examples to support certain claims while rebutting other claims using opposing viewpoints. The author may also use rhetorical devices such as irony, sarcasm and other questionable tactics in order to persuade his or her readers into believing what they want them to believe.

Poetry: Poetry is another form of literature that consists of meaningful words arranged in lines called stanzas (or lines) that rhyme with each other; each stanza has one particular line as its refrain (a repeated line). Poems may be written in various meters (rhythmical patterns) such as iambic pentameter (five-stress per line),

4. Expository

The professor’s lecture was about the construction of a new apartment building. He explained how the project began in the beginning of the twentieth century, when people were looking for ways to improve their lives. The professor told how the same idea was applied to other fields of science and technology, such as medicine, transportation and communication.

The professor also presented examples of different types of apartments that were built during this period and how they were used by people living in them. Some were luxurious and expensive while others were quite small and cheap.

He explained that some apartments had only one room while others had many rooms. They all had air conditioning and heating systems installed inside them; however, some apartments did not have these features installed because it was not necessary for them at that time.

The professor also discussed what types of materials were used for constructing these buildings: steel beams, concrete columns and walls made from bricks or stone blocks; all these materials have been used throughout history as well as today. He also talked about architects who designed these buildings; some architects designed structures based on traditional architecture while others experimented with new forms of architecture for their own purposes.

What Are The Types Of Writing?

Argumentative writing.

This is a style that aims to persuade the reader of a particular point of view. Arguments are often structured around a thesis that states the author’s position, and then develops and refutes arguments against it.

Explanatory writing.

This type of writing aims to inform readers about something they may not know about, but which is relevant to their interests or needs. Explanatory texts typically feature tables and diagrams, which allow readers to follow the writer’s argument more easily than with text alone.

Descriptive writing.

This type of text is concerned with describing some aspect of the world in more detail than others have done before, or with describing how something works or what it feels like in more detail than others have done before. This type is often written in narrative form, as when you tell someone else how it happened or what you did last night.”

Different Types Of Writing Styles – Wrapping Up

The kind of writing style you use will depend on the subject matter, audience, or purpose of your writing. But there are some general guidelines that can help you decide how to go about it.

  1. Write simply and clearly: Be as concise as possible. A simple sentence is easier to understand than a complex one. If you don’t have the time to write in full sentences, break things down so they’re easier to digest—this is called “bullet points.”
  2. Use active voice: The active voice means that the subject performs the action in a sentence (e.g., “I sat down”). Passive voice sentences use “be” and “become” verbs (“the chair was broken”). In both cases, the object gets acted upon by something else (e.g., “the chair was broken”), which makes it harder for readers to know who is doing what. Use passive voice when no one’s doing anything important in your sentences; otherwise, stick with active voice unless there’s a very good reason not to (see #4).
  3. Avoid jargon: Jargon is a way of talking that only certain people understand; if you’re not one of them, use simple words rather
