The Apartment (1960)

Miracle on 34th Street (1994)

Miracle on 34th Street is a 1994 American Christmas fantasy film written and produced by John Hughes and directed by Les Mayfield. It stars Richard Attenborough, Mara Wilson, Elizabeth Perkins, and Kieran Culkin as the aforementioned title character, Kris Kringle.

The story is based on the mid-1940s screenplay Miracle on 34th Street by Valentine Davies. The plot revolves around a young girl who is initially skeptical of Kris’ claims that he is Santa Claus. 

What happens when you take a Christmas classic and update it for a new generation? You get the 1994 version of Miracle on 34th Street, that’s what! In our opinion, this is one of the best Christmas movies ever made. The dialogue is snappy and fun and there are plenty of plot twists that keep you guessing until the end.

Plus, there are some truly funny performances from George Hearn (who was apparently in every good Christmas movie in the ’90s), Elizabeth Perkins, and Richard Attenborough. It’s a feel-good film for all ages!

The Holiday (2006)

Our hero, Pietari, is the 10-year-old son of archaeologist, Professor Buwalda, who has been busy excavating a site in the Arctic Circle. Happy Christmas (2014)

Happy Christmas is a 2014 American comedy-drama film written, produced, and directed by Joe Swanberg. The film stars Swanberg, Melanie Lynskey, Anna Kendrick and Lena Dunham.

 The film follows Jenny (Kendrick), a young woman who moves in with her brother Jeff (Swanberg), his wife Kelly (Lynskey), and their two-year-old son after a break-up with her boyfriend. 

While there she befriends their neighbor Carson (Dunham), who decidedly interrupts their domestic drudgery and shakes up their lives!

White Christmas (1954)

Die Hard (1988)

The Bishop’s Wife (1947)

The Bishop’s Wife (1947), starring Loretta Young and David Niven, tells the story of a bishop whose townspeople want to build a grand new cathedral. The only thing is, he’s too busy with his church and upcoming marriage to the bishop’s daughter to pay any attention to the needs of his flock. 

Enter Angel Dudley, who appears at his kitchen door with some divine help. This Christmas movie is great for all families!

A Christmas Carol (1999)

With a cast starring George C. In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is a bitter, miserly old-school banker who cares only about money. One Christmas Eve, he has a chance encounter with the ghost of his deceased business partner Jacob Marley and the spirit of his former partner’s son, Jacob Marley IV. 

Both ghosts warn Scrooge that he must change his ways or he will be doomed to an eternity in hell as punishment for gaining his fortune at the expense of hard-working people like them. Armed with this warning, Scrooge decides to change his ways and starts to become a kinder person, which gives him a family and love he had never known before.

Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)

Meet Me in St. Louis is a 1944 American musical film directed by Vincente Minnelli, and starring Judy Garland, Margaret OBrien, Mary Astor, Lucille Bremer, Tom Drake, Leon Ames, Marjorie Main and June Lockhart. The picture was written by Irving Brecher, Fred F. Finklehoffe and Don Hartman based on a story by Sally Benson.

The year is 1904 and the throngs of St. Louis, Missouri are anticipating the upcoming World’s Fair. Hildegarde “Hildy” ‘Skip’ Foster and her three sisters, Esther, Clara, and Esther decide to put on a vaudeville show as a way to save up money for a trip to Paris.

When potential sponsors see that their prize attraction is one of Hildy’s gorgeous blonde sisters, they hire all three girls to perform and travel with the troupe around the country. The Wilkes family meets many different people along their travels and slowly fall in love with each other and their adventures together.

Carol (2015)

Love Actually (2003)

Gremlins (1984)

The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

Jim Henson’s Muppet Christmas Carol is a 1992 Christmas film adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol starring the Muppets. The story begins with Gonzo reading the book, which is depicted as a Dickens novel. 

In this film, the portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge (Michael Caine) is entirely performed by a Muppet creature known as “The Ghost of Christmas Past” (Dave Goelz). Also a few human actors appear alongside the Muppets including Robin Wright Penn (playing Belle), Bob Hoskins (as Bill), Christopher Reeve (as Jacob Marley’s ghost), and Richard Griffiths (as Fezziwig).

The Snowman (1982)

The Snowman is a 1982 British comedy film directed by Henry Herbert and adapted from the book The Snowman by Raymond Briggs. It is ananimated film based on Briggs’ picture book of the same name, which he also wrote and illustrated.

It tells the story of a boy named James, who helps build a snowman which comes to life at night and plays with him, but then melts in the sun during the day. John Mills provides both the narration and the voice for Father Christmas.

Home Alone (1990)
