The Sony Cyber-Shot RX10 V (DSC-RX10M5), announced July 2026, is Sony’s current flagship bridge camera and the direct successor to the long-running RX10 IV.

4. Panasonic Lumix FZ330 / FZ300
The Panasonic Lumix FZ330 (FZ300 in North America) is a weather-sealed bridge camera aimed at shooters who want a constant f/2.8 aperture across the zoom range rather than the longest possible reach.

5. Canon Powershot G3 X
The Canon PowerShot G3 X is Canon’s large-sensor bridge entry: a 1-inch, roughly 20.2-megapixel sensor behind a 25x optical zoom (24-600mm full-frame equivalent, f/2.8-5.6) and DIGIC 6 processing.

The Panasonic Lumix FZ2000 (FZ2500 in some regions) is a video-leaning bridge camera with a 20x optical zoom (24-480mm equivalent), 5-axis stabilization, and 4K recording at up to 30 fps.
The f/2.8–4.5 lens and 1-inch sensor give solid low-light results for the class, and the body offers plenty of manual controls for stills and video. If you find a clean used copy, it remains a versatile single-lens travel and hybrid-shooting option — just don’t expect it as a current new-retail Panasonic model.

Update: Sony discontinued the RX10 IV in early 2025 after nearly a decade in production. Its direct successor, the RX10 V (above), shipped from August 2026. The IV remains a strong used/secondhand pick if you can find one at a sensible price relative to the new model.
The RX10 IV still earns its reputation as the previous-generation benchmark 1-inch bridge camera. It combines a 20.1MP 1-inch Exmor RS stacked sensor with a ZEISS 24-600mm equivalent f/2.4-4 zoom, phase-detect AF, continuous shooting up to about 24 fps with AF/AE tracking, and 4K video (24p/25p/30p with full-pixel readout in the standard modes).

Leica's bridge camera line carries a price premium over most competitors, but the V-Lux 5 delivers real hardware to back it up.
The V-Lux 5 (announced 2019, essentially a Leica-branded version of the Panasonic FZ1000 II) is built around a 1-inch, 20-megapixel BSI-CMOS sensor paired with a 16x optical zoom lens (25-400mm full-frame equivalent, f/2.8-4), extendable to roughly 32x via Extended Optical Zoom at reduced resolution.
It includes a 2.36-million-dot OLED electronic viewfinder, a 3-inch fully articulating touchscreen LCD, and 4K video recording, along with the build quality and color rendering Leica is known for.
The V-Lux 5 is a reasonable option for photographers who specifically want Leica's styling, menu system, and support experience layered on top of proven Panasonic hardware, though it costs noticeably more than the FZ1000 II it's based on for largely cosmetic and support differences.

Update: Nikon has discontinued the P1000. Its direct successor, the Coolpix P1100 (announced February 2025), is Nikon's current flagship superzoom: a 125x optical zoom lens (24-3000mm equivalent, extendable to an effective 250x/6000mm with Dynamic Fine Zoom), a 16MP backside-illuminated sensor, and 4K video. The P1000 remains a strong used option and shares the same extreme-zoom niche, just one generation behind.
The Coolpix P1000 was, in its day, one of the most extreme zoom compacts on the market — a powerhouse with a 125x optical zoom lens that allows getting extremely close to distant subjects.
It also features an LCD touchscreen, Wi-Fi capabilities, a built-in GPS tracker, and 4K video recording at 30 frames per second.
The camera features a 16-megapixel CMOS image sensor that produces high-quality images with natural colors, and it remains capable of excellent results even in lower light for a small-sensor camera, though a fast lens and steady hands (or a tripod) matter more at maximum zoom than on most cameras.

The SX70 is a brilliant camera. It has the quality of an SLR but in a much smaller and more portable package.
One of its most appealing features is that it uses an electronic viewfinder, which makes composing shots easier than with traditional cameras.
Another excellent feature: the "70" in SX70 HS is just Canon's model number, not a megapixel count — the camera actually has a 20.3-megapixel sensor.
It’s also got Wi-Fi and NFC capabilities for easy transfer of photos to mobile devices, so you can share your shots as soon as you get them without having to connect cables or use the software on a computer.
Update: Canon has not updated the SX70 HS since its 2018 release, and Canon's compact superzoom lineup has largely wound down as the company focuses on mirrorless. It's still findable new at some retailers, but check current availability before assuming it's freshly stocked everywhere.
This camera has a lot of features that are very helpful for both amateur and professional photographers.
The main feature is that it can take pictures in RAW format, which means they will be high-quality images with more details than JPEGs.
